The City That Never Sleeps. An apt nickname.

What to do in NYC? I thought I was going to go to a bunch of museums and take loads of photos. What did I do? A whole lot of walking, because I met up with a good friend of mine, and we just wandered around and explored at our leisure. Since the weather and lighting were not very conducive to photography, I didn’t end up taking very many photos. I took some, but not very many.

I splurged on a fancy hotel in Hell’s Kitchen with a huge soaking tub, so I bought a few bath bombs from Lush and enjoyed some long, hot, relaxing soaks after spending all day walking. This hotel also had a wonderful view of the city. Hell, I could even see the lights of Times Square from my room.

There’s something magical about the lights in the darkness.

We took the train to Brooklyn, wandered a bit, then walked across the Brooklyn Bridge to get back to Manhattan. We meandered through Prospect Park, strolled along the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade, and just spent some time staring at the water (and the Statue of Liberty).

We wanted to go to the theater, but all the traditional ones were crazy expensive, so we went to a little thing called “Drunk Shakespeare.” Twice. It was hysterical and irreverent and wonderful. 10 out of 10, would recommend and all that jazz.

I visited the Grand Central Library, after getting turned around somehow and accidentally walking through the Diamond District. SO MUCH SPARKLE (disclaimer: I power walked through that area because it was NOT where I wanted to be, so I only saw the sparklies out of the corner of my eye). I’m still not sure how I got so turned around, but it was interesting. If I hadn’t been in such a rush to get to the library, I might’ve looked around a bit more, but books and architecture were calling my name.

After the library, we biked around Central Park, even though it was a bit chilly. Despite the chill, it is a lovely park, and it must be downright beautiful during the spring, summer, and fall. I laughed at myself a great deal while biking, because I’ve always found falling off a bike much easier than riding one.

Overall, I must say that New York City is a fascinating place. I definitely want to visit it again. The culture, art, architecture, food – it has many things working in its favor. I enjoyed my short stay, and look forward to visiting again.
