…as an American.
Thank God for automatic transmissions, because if I had to try driving a manual car with everything backwards, well….that would have been bad.
As it is, I have to admit that driving on the left hand side of the road isn’t as difficult as I expected. Sure, it is a bit stressful at moments, but overall, it’s not that hard. Mind you, in the UK, people tend to follow traffic laws and yield to pedestrians, and are overall very polite behind the wheel, so that helped me to adjust.
I have to say, the hardest thing about driving in rural Wales is not allowing myself to get distracted by the scenery. I mean, just look at it:
Ultimately, I hope people aren’t too intimidated by the thought of driving on the “wrong” side of the road to get out and do it. After all, while the trains in the UK are great, they don’t go everywhere. Just imagine what I would have missed if I hadn’t taken the risk and rented a car for a few days.
